From a Volunteer Initiative to a Systematic Organization The story of the CO “ICBF ‘Ukrainian Soul’” began in the spring of 2022 — during the first months of the full-scale war, when thousands of people were forced to leave their homes, and Odesa welcomed internally displaced persons from various regions of Ukraine. At that time, a team of volunteers came together around a simple goal — to help those who found themselves in a crisis situation and needed the essentials. This is how the “Hospitable House” volunteer center began its work. Initially, the core of its activities consisted of food, hygiene products, clothing, children’s goods, medicines, and other humanitarian aid. The team received shipments, prepared aid packages, coordinated distributions, and handled a large number of requests every day. On April 11, 2022, the Charitable Organization “International Charitable Foundation ‘Ukrainian Soul’” was officially registered. As people’s needs changed, the organization itself evolved as well. Humanitarian assistance remained one of its key areas, but it was gradually complemented by medical, psychological, social, and educational programs. This led to the creation of the “Medical House” and “Educational House”, psychological support services, humanitarian missions, support for medical and social institutions, and partnership projects. A broad network of Ukrainian and international partners was established around the Foundation. Today, “Ukrainian Soul” is no longer just a humanitarian center. It is an organization that works with people, communities, hospitals, civil society organizations, and international partners, builds up expertise and data, and is gradually moving from individual crisis response toward systemic solutions. The Foundation’s next stage of development focuses on strengthening its humanitarian and medical programs, institutional cooperation, analytical capacity, the development of a social pharmacy, and the integration of local organizations. Behind all these changes remains the core principle with which “Ukrainian Soul” began in 2022: the individual, their dignity, and the willingness to be there in difficult times.
